The best Dylan deep-dives happen over at Laura Tenschert’s Definitely Dylan. And something is most definitely happening when Jerry Saltz, art critic and columnist for New York magazine calls it “the best Dylan podcast.” Tenschert blends close readings of Dylan songs and albums, with conversations with writers, musicians, critics, and academics. She covers everything from thematic episodes and deep dives on live performances as well as analysis of Dylan’s ever-evolving public persona.

Recently, Tenschert and NYC-based writer Rebecca Slaman have launched a new podcast: “The Bob Dylan Hotline.”

The Hotline serves as a combination of an innovative fan news show and a topical deep dive, with Tenschert exploring every conceivable Dylan-related subject, from magic and alchemy to Dylan’s most cinematic song, the relationship between Dylan and McCartney, and the importance of the album as an art form.

It’s a terrific companion to, and extension of, the existing Definitely Dylan podcast archive, which remains essential listening for Bob Dylan fans.

The Bob Dylan Hotline is another reminder of why it’s so exciting to be a Bob Dylan fan right now. There’s always always something happening, always a new perspective, a different way of hearing the songs, understanding the films and experiencing the concerts. And more recently Dylan’s social media posts and his letters and short stories on Patreon, and the dramatic changes in his live band only add to the delight of being a Dylan fan. I wonder if Mr Dylan quite realises the ecosystem he created and sustains.

I can’t think of many fanbases who reciprocate quite the way Dylan’s core fans do, or of an artist who interacts and responds to his fans in such a unique way.
